The report “Unknown Russia: Powered by Entrepreneurs” recently produced by the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Russia with the special contribution from the SKOLKOVO Institute for Emerging Market Studies (IEMS), was presented at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos on January 21-24. The report seeks to uncover the lesser known side of Russian business: the entrepreneurial stratum of dynamic, innovative and successful companies in the non-oil sector. The chapter by IEMS, “Discovering the Leaders’ Strategies,” provides an account of 15 Russian companies which have grown to outperform or at least challenge international players not only in Russia but also in the global marketplace. Thanks to their entrepreneurial mindset, these companies have creatively addressed challenges of the Russian reality and turned weaknesses into strengths.
